Hi, This is us.. Well mostly my gorgeous wife.
The concept for Miss Ruby's Bakery was founded by Charlene, my beautiful wife and partner way before we even met in her kitchen in East London.
She has always loved baking and being creative in the kitchen, but in the recent years has turned her passion into an artistic expression which she loves perfecting more and more everyday. A lot of girls take Home Economics at school because they don't have the hands for woodwork, but for Charlene that is where her love for baking was kindled as she learnt an appreciation for the art of baking and how recipes are constructed. She was captivated by the sensational synergy of various ingredients forming new and unique experiences. This love for experimentation within the disciplined limits of good food making is evident in her culinary flare.
Charlene was born in Umtata in the Eastern Cape and then moved to East London at the age of 7 where she lived and eventually started her own business from home on a very small scale. We met in 2010 and I pursued her for 2 years long distance while her business started taking form. She then moved up in April this year when we finally got married and re-started Miss Ruby's from the ground up in Pretoria East.
The name, Miss Ruby's came from a group that Charlene started for young girls where they spoke about what it really means to be a lady and I she also taught them some baking skills. The inspiration was taken from Proverbs 31 in the bible where it speaks of how a woman of noble character is worth far more than rubies. That name stuck as the bakery for us is more than just about the food. It's about people.
To date, Charlene has had the privilege of baking many cakes, doing over 1000 cupcakes, 100's of other baked treats and meeting alot of wonderful and loyal clients. Our hope is that many more people will experience Charlene's love for baked and cooked goods and that we connect with many more interesting names and faces.
